Books we have read:
In order to help more children grow interest in reading and writing, we are continuing the club for Grade 3 to Grade 4 children.
In each session, we will read the 5 to 7 chapters assigned the week before each class together. We will discuss the main events, characters, and any other interesting aspects within those chapters in order to boost a deeper understanding of what is being read. The children are encouraged to find and make connections to their own life experiences, other literature they have read, and what they are reading in regards to universal concepts. After the class, the teacher will assign some questions for the children to think about. They are encouraged to write down as much as they can, and the teacher will go over their answers with them all together during the next class.
We want to help children become enthusiastic towards reading, start reading by themselves, and readily come up with summaries for chapters or books on their own. We hope this kind of group work will improve reading and writing skills.
Books:
As reading skills grow, children plunge into the world of books with new-found confidence. They are now able to handle books with more complex storylines. They can comprehend narratives told from various points of view and can empathize with the characters.
With encouragement and direction, the middle reader will grow into more sophisticated books that can provide a solid base from which to explore the world around them.
